What Can a Simple Garden Allium Teach Us About Finding Wisdom?

Have you ever felt stuck…unsure what decision to make or which direction to go?

We often think wisdom should come quickly—clear, obvious, and immediate. But what if wisdom doesn’t work that way? What if it grows slowly… quietly… almost unnoticed?

Purple allium flowers with round clusters bloom in a garden, surrounded by green stems and blurred foliage background, creating a serene scene.

A Lesson from the Garden

Recently, I noticed something simple in my friend's garden: an allium.

At first, it didn’t look like much. Just a stem. No bloom. No sign of anything impressive. But over time, something changed.

Slowly—almost imperceptibly—it began to form something beautiful.

Why Don't I Have Wisdom?

Here’s where we get it wrong: We expect wisdom to feel like a breakthrough. A sudden answer. A clear sign. But more often, wisdom looks like:

  • waiting

  • growing beneath the surface

  • small, steady change

Just like that flower.

The Truth About Wisdom

Wisdom isn’t always loud. It doesn’t always arrive fully formed. Sometimes it’s:

  • a quiet nudge

  • a repeated thought

  • a gentle shift in perspective

And if we rush past it, we miss it entirely.

Why Do I Feel Stuck?

If you feel stuck right now, it doesn’t mean you lack wisdom. It may mean it’s still growing. Instead of forcing clarity, try:

  • slowing down

  • paying attention

  • noticing what’s already unfolding

A Simple Practice

This week, try this:

  1. Sit with one question you’ve been wrestling with

  2. Don’t rush to answer it

  3. Reflect on it daily (even briefly)

  4. Notice what shifts over time

Wisdom often reveals itself gradually—not instantly.

This slow, intentional process is exactly why I created my 52-week coloring meditation journal.

Each theme is designed to help you:

Because wisdom, like that allium…doesn’t appear all at once.
