Have you ever prayed for a sign from God… while completely missing what’s right in front of you?

The story of the burning bush is one of the most well-known moments in the Bible. God speaks. A miracle happens. Everything changes. But there’s something subtle in this story that many of us overlook—and it might explain why we feel disconnected, distracted, or like God is silent.

Why Can’t I Hear God?

In the Book of Exodus 3, Moses doesn’t immediately hear God. First, he notices something different. A bush is on fire… but not burning up. And then scripture says something important:

Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight…” That moment—turning aside—is where everything changes.

The “Burning Bush Fallacy”

We often believe: “If God wants my attention, He’ll make it obvious.” But the story shows the opposite. God didn’t shout first.

He didn’t force Moses to stop. Moses had to choose to pause. To look. To turn aside.

That’s the fallacy: We expect God to interrupt our lives instead of realizing He’s already present within them.

Why This Matters Today

We live in constant noise:

  • scrolling

  • multitasking

  • rushing from one thing to the next

And then we wonder, “Why don’t I feel close to God?” It may not be absence.

It may be attention.

How to Stop Worrying and See God?

It doesn’t have to be dramatic.

It can look like:

  • sitting in silence for 5 minutes

  • reflecting on a single verse

  • slowing down enough to notice what you feel

Even something as simple as coloring—intentionally and prayerfully—can become a moment where you “turn aside.”

How Do I Meditate?

This week, try this:

  1. Choose one scripture

  2. Read it slowly

  3. Sit with it (no rushing)

  4. Let your mind settle on one word or phrase

Ask yourself - What is God trying to show me here?

Is There A Guide To Stopping My Overactive Brain?

This is exactly why I created my 52-week coloring meditation journal.

Each theme is designed to help you:

  • slow down

  • focus on one truth at a time

  • create space to notice what God might already be revealing

Because sometimes, the “burning bush” isn’t missing…We just haven’t turned aside yet.
